De meeste Koerden zijn religieus. Circa 90% is moslim en verder bestaan veel Koerden jezidi's. Ons bijzonder klein deel, circa 0,03%, is christelijk en er bestaat ook een korte joodse minderheid. Aangaande die laatste band is sinds een onafhankelijkheid betreffende Israël ons deel naar het land geëmigreerd.
The Kurds built many monumental castles in the lands which they ruled, especially in what was called 'Kurdistan ofwel Syria' and in Damuscus, the capital of Syria. A tall building, called 'Qalha', is still standing, in the mid south-west quarter ofwel Damascus. The Ayubian dynasty continued there for many years, all from Kurdish descent.

Iraqi Kurds played an important role in the Iraq War. Kurdish parties joined forces against the Iraqi government during the war in Spring 2003. Kurdish military forces, known as Peshmerga, played an important role in the overthrow of the Iraqi government;[92] however, Kurds have been reluctant to send troops into Baghdad since then, preferring not to be dragged into the sectarian struggle that dominates much ofwel Iraq.[93]
Kurds make up an estimated 15% to 20% of Iraq's population. They have historically enjoyed more national rights than Kurds living in neighbouring states, but also faced brutal repression.
The Canyon ofwel Rawanduz kan zijn 10 km long and located in the Kurdistan region near the Iranian border. It is considered one of the most beautiful in the area, with greenery from spring to autumn and rivers and waterfalls flowing between the canyons.
